Two items that are of utmost importance to me in the summer are sunscreen and self tanner. As a self proclaimed (and nicknamed) blanquita it's important for me to get my glow on safely. Last summer I posted about the importance of oxybenzone free sunscreen, and this year mineral sunscreens have gotten a lot of press and have been proven to be safer for the environment. I usually keep multiple sunscreens in my beach bag, one lotion and one spray. I like having a lotion on hand for initial application, and for multiple applications to my face. Having a spray on hand is great for touch ups, and applying sunscreen to your back on a solo beach day.
Love Sun Body |
The sunscreen I have been testing out this summer is by Love Sun Body. It is a cruelty free, vegan, mineral based, oxybenzone free sunscreen. I love that these bottles come in multiple sizes, SPF 30 and 50, and scented and unscented versions. I have been using the lightly scented version which is Tiare and Vanilla, and it smells amazing. It's very fresh and light. I used this on my face and body, and was very impressed. It felt nice on the skin and did not break me out. The product does have a soft matte effect, I felt this worked great on my face, but my body seemed to stay a bit tackier which isn't a huge deal for me as long as I'm protected from the sun. 😎 Perhaps it just needed to be worked into the skin a bit more.
Double Shot Espresso Tan |
As for self tanner I've recently been trying some varieties from the OG Fake Bake. I've been using the Double Shot Espresso formula for the past two weeks and so far I really like it! I'm still getting used to using gloves in place of a mitt, but I've found you use less product with this method. This formula, leaves a nice dark, even tan, and smells of coffee. The tan seems to last a bit longer than tanners I've tried in the past which is a huge plus for me.
Staying hydrated is a huge concern for me especially in the summer. I can be a bit picky with water, strange as it sounds, but Boxed Water tastes as water should-- pure and refreshing. The packaging is also more sustainable than other single use water bottles, and is made of seventy-four percent paper. New trees are planted in place of the ones used to create these cartons, and Boxed Water also works with 1% for the Planet to donate at least 1% of its proceeds to reforestation and water relief efforts.
I recently ordered a bunch of goodies from Sephora, one of them being IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. When BB and CC creams first came on the market I wasn't a huge fan, they didn't seem to do much for my skin so I was a little hesitant to try one again. I wish I had tried this year ago! It provides a nice amount of coverage, doesn't break me out, and is amazing for hot summer days when I still want a touch of makeup.
